The s-monotone index selection rules for pivot algorithms of linear programming

In this paper we introduce the concept of s-monotone index selection rule for linear programming problems. We show that several known anti-cycling pivot rules like the minimal index, Last-In–First-Out and the most-often-selected-variable pivot rules are s-monotone index selection rules. Furthermore, we show a possible way to define new s-monotone pivot rules. We prove that several known algorithms like the primal (dual) simplex, MBU-simplex algorithms and criss-cross algorithm with s-monotone pivot rules are finite methods. We implemented primal simplex and primal MBU-simplex algorithms, in MATLAB, using three s-monotone index selection rules, the minimal-index, the Last-In–First-Out (LIFO) and the Most-Often-Selected-Variable (MOSV) index selection rule. Numerical results demonstrate the viability of the above listed s-monotone index selection rules in the framework of pivot algorithms

In this study I attempt to work those intellectual entrepreneurs who have gone further in the analyses of law of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. The Marxian perspective on the legal sociology was that the law is used by the ruling classes to their advantage and to suppress the subordinates. As the title of this work is represented now the attention has been turned to the writings of neo-Marxist scholars like Jevgenyij Pasukanis, Isaac D. Balbus,Karl Renner, and Alan Stone and their attempts to formulate the legal theories and sociological perspectives within the Marxian perspective. Pasukanis argued – as Marx said – that there exists a parallel between the logic of commodity form and the logic of the legal form. While he predicted the law would wither with the complete elimination of the bourgeoisie Isaac Balbus developed Pasukanis thesis, and in his point of view the law may be described as having a relative autonomy. Later Karl Renner postulated the legal norms could change but their structures would nevertheless remain the same. He saw the socialism as an economic system that is conscious of itself. Finally Alan Stone’s view on the law: the specific rules may be questioned time after time but the legitimacy of the essential legal relations is almost never questioned. To sum up, this work has tried to give a comprehensive overview in sociology of law after Marx and Engels in the most important theoretical orientations. Finally, it can be said that the theories are more further from the Marxian’s view of sociology of law in time theoretically the greater distance can be found between economy and law moreover the various social spheres have greater autonomy as well

Castaways of the White Pleasure : Six Decades of Hungarian Discourse on Narcotics

In 1924 Hungary ratified and codified the 1912 Hague International Opium Convention, the first international drug control treaty. However, the new law that regulated and later criminalized the usage of narcotics in Hungary was not the result of internal debate and had no real domestic political will behind it. In contrary, this law was the result of external demands as Article 230 of the post-World War I Trianon Treaty required Hungary to join the Hague Convention. This paper examines what the contemporary Hungarian attitude towards drugs and drug users was. In order to answer how this attitude developed and changed, the following study examines how the contemporary media, artists and intellectuals and various governmental and non-governmental organizations discussed and represented the issue of narcotics

Being aware of the historical facts has made it possible to give a guideline to fully understand the discipline of sociology of law after Max Weber followed his thoughts. So, it has been turned attention to the contributors of Weberian perspective within the concept of legitimacy. In connection with legitimacy first of all it has been discussed Gerald Turkel and Martin Spencer theories developed new varieties of authority and the principle of absolute-value norms. After that it must have been shown how David Campbell pointed out some contradictions in Weber’s explanations of legitimacy as faring away from the ideological roots. Continuing this work Alan Hyde empirical research in connection with Weber’s theories about legitimacy has been shown why people obey the law. Perhaps the people take a greater care about the substantive moral values than the formal procedure in spite of Weber declared the law abide. Finally, it has been looked up Tom Tyler’s works in order to understand the distinction between the instrumental and normative perspectives why society obey the norms and he found that the fair procedure may legitimate the legal authority. With these works, researches could refine the Weberian theories, not just the legitimacy’s problem but the sociology of law as a whole

Being aware of the historical facts has made it possible to fully understand why the legal instruction systems varied in different legal cultures so much in method, knowledge, practical relevance, and practical expertise. The historical research of the Hungarian legal education has shown the special reasons that led to different systems among the same legal cultures surround the country. It has been found that the main reason was the socalled “red tape” education so that the future lawyers would be a member of bureaucracy. This method and thinking ability has pervaded trough centuries of Hungarian legal instruction and it can be felt nowadays as well. But of course in this country there were other processions that led to the conformation of the Hungarian instruction system to the European “mainstream”. From the end of the twentieth century, perhaps this process probably will continue into the 21st century. But in this work I tried to draw attention to the repeated failures of our country’s legal instruction development
